Seeing Our Baby

We had the AMAZING opportunity and experience of seeing our precious baby at 16 weeks. A dear friend of my parents happens to do ultrasounds and offered to do one for us! Not only did we see our baby, we got to find out 4 weeks early that we are having a...GIRL.

A sweet, wonderful, little girl. We would have been thrilled either way...but there is something so special about a little girl joining our family this year! My niece, Hadley, was born in August. Will's niece, Hannah, was born just a few days ago. One of my best friends had a girl a few weeks ago and another of my best friends is having a girl in December! So our little girl is already so blessed to have cousins and friends her age!

The other crazy thing is that we had names picked out before our appointment. We had bounced a few names around early on and we landed on family names that were just perfect. So we went into the appointment knowing that we would leave with a name decided!

Our baby girl is named Hattie Louise Shinnick, and we'll call her Hattie. Will's grandmother, Nana, is called Hattie. It's not her real name; it's a nickname she's had for years. But Nana is one of the hardest working, most giving, caring, and wonderful women we've ever known. And Nana has truly become like my own grandmother to me. I grew up only having one grandmother in my life, because my dad's mother passed away 5 months after I was born. So that's where Louise comes from. Louise is my paternal grandmother's name. So Hattie carries names from both a grandmother so near & dear to our hearts and a grandmother I have always longed to know.

Now, without further ado...here's our Hattie...

Hattie was kicking like crazy!

Five perfect little fingers!

And this may look like 6 toes...but there are 5, we counted. Twice.

Sweet little profile.

I wonder what she'll look like. Will she have dark hair like Will or blonde hair like me? His amazing olive skin or my fairer, more freckled skin? Will's long, skinny legs or my short, muscular legs? Let's hope for Will's long legs...

All I know is that I am so thankful to have seen our baby girl. To know she is healthy, active, and growing. To watch her perfect little heart beat strong. And her legs kicking the wall by my bladder, begging for more room! And see her little body jump in rhythm to her hiccups. It was all so awe-inspiring. She's so perfectly made by our perfect Creator.

I'll post some more photos later...we received nearly 20 photos of our baby from this ultrasound and an hour long dvd of the entire thing recorded. And my tummy has definitely popped out now, as it should have because this girl is 12 cm (around 5in) long from head to bottom and nearly 5 ounces.
