Wrapped Around His Finger

Wilkes spent the night with us a couple weeks ago. We had the best time with him!!! We picked him up early from pre-school, and we arrived when he was taking his nap. Waking him up and seeing his face when he realized that it was Aunt Caity and Uncle Will...so precious! He gave us huge hugs!

We then went to Petsmart and bought new fish. Wilkes got the honor of naming our three new fish...Sam, Stewart, and Laura, pronounced Lora...not Lawra, he made sure to correct us when we were wrong! We thought he would name them something like Terminator and Sponge Bob. But no...apparently, he took this job very seriously, choosing "good names" in his words.

Then we decided to invite Bebe & Pops (my parents) and Uncle John over for dinner. Wilkes decided we should have macaroni & cheese, cookies, and bread. We agreed. (We also added in asparagus, fried okra, and bbq chicken!) So we had to stop at Whole Foods. Uncle Will started the real shopping, and Wilkes & I looked for snacks. Wilkes chose chocolate milk and string cheese, and he wanted to pay by himself. (He's growing up too fast!!) Then Wilkes assisted Chef Will by choosing the perfect gourmet cheddar cheese for our macaroni & cheese, selecting a loaf of bread at the bakery counter, and scooping coffee out of the bin. He was so into our shopping trip and wanted to help so much!

On the way home from the grocery, he told us what he learned at school that day. He informed us that popcorn comes from corn. And that they made corn at school. And that eggs come from cows!! Haha, we informed him that eggs do not come from cows, they come from chickens. And we also told him we were going to tell Pops, who grew up on a farm!!

When we got home, we started cooking and decorating. We shelled pistachios for baklava (for another day), put out the Halloween trees, and played with Chaco.

2 cuties in the kitchen!

Wilkes assisted Uncle Will in the kitchen - they made homemade peanut butter!

Then Wilkes and I decided we should go play on the playground at Walnut Grove. He said, "Aunt Caity, we should take your camera." He's caught on. I love taking his picture! So we grabbed it, and here are the results...

This is the moment I said, "No, Wilkes...don't try to stick your head through that."

Then Wilkes decided he wanted to take some photos...up close.

And of me being silly, in his words.

Of this one above, he said, "Ha, I'm gonna show this one to Uncle Will!!"

Wilkes asked me to go stand by the gate, he took my photo, and said, "Oh, that's a good one."

And then he wanted a silly one together!

On our walk home, Wilkes said, "We should go slide down that hill on our tummies." I asked him what he meant, and he said he did it in the snow one time. Well, that obviously wasn't going to work without the snow. So I showed him how to roll down the hill. And we did. Several times. And guess who is allergic to grass? Oh yeah, ME.

We had such a fun night after that. We ate dinner with Pops & Bebe & Uncle John. And we had homemade cranberry limeades, which Wilkes referred to as his pink drink. And we practiced football plays in the living room with Uncle John teaching us positions as we threw Bebe's ball of yarn. We watched Ponyo.

And then when it came time to go to bed, I tucked Wilkes in and said, "Wilkes, you know your Aunt Caity loves you, right?" And he replied in a sleepy voice, "You know your Wilkes loves you."

There's nothing better than that.
