Sending Shoes To Refugees

FRIENDS! This is amazing. The response to my request for shoes has been absolutely overwhelming and breathtaking. God is taking this far beyond anything I could have ever imagined, and it's just beautiful. There are 3 churches in the Nashville area collecting shoes with me. I have a friend collecting shoes in Huntsville, and amazing things are happening there.

Here are some details of what's happening and some answers to questions being asked:

WHAT WE'RE SENDING

This effort is focusing on this specific item. There are lots of needs and ways to give, but I feel it is my calling to send shoes.

Closed Toe Shoes in all sizes, for men, women, and children

(think athletic shoes, Toms, sneakers, casual shoes, etc.)

Small Toys to go inside each pair of children's shoes

(think Little People, small figurines, bouncy balls, rattles, teething ring, etc.)
Please bring put them all together in a sealed bag so they don't get all mixed up in the shoes!

WHERE ARE THEY GOING?

The details aren't completely together yet. Our church has a missionary in Greece that works directly with refugees and I am hoping this comes together so that we can send all this directly to him. If not, I have another option.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Here are three ways you can help this effort right now. Other churches are getting involved and helping collect shoes, so there are multiple places you can drop shoes off.

1. Gather your gently used shoes.
     • Bring them to Ethos Church on Sunday, September 20th.
     • Drop them off at my house, email shinnickfamily(at)ethoschurch(dot)org to arrange drop off.
     • Well House Church North is collecting shoes on Sunday, the 13th and 20th. Click here to go to their site.
     • Harpeth Hills Church of Christ is collecting shoes on Sunday, the 20th. Click here to go to their site.
     • Drop them off at Hewitt Garden & Design Center in Franklin, from 8–5, Mon-Sat. Leave them at the register.
2. Pray.
   Pray for the people that will be receiving these shoes. May the glorious light of Christ shine bright in the darkness that is pressing in. Pray for the nations hosting refugees, that their hearts may be overwhelmed with generosity and compassion for people fleeing. Pray for rescue efforts in the Mediterranean, that people would be saved out of the waters and delivered safely to new countries.
3. Share.
   Spread the word, share this blog, collect items in your neighborhoods and communities. 

I cannot thank each of you enough. May God receive all glory and praise, may his name be lifted high and remembered for the ages to come. He is good, and his love endures forever.
